Browsing the Catalog

Explore the complete Magic: The Gathering product catalog before syncing to your store.

What is the Catalog?

The Catalog is a read-only view of all available MTG products in the LGS Ledger database. Use it to:

  • Discover sets - See all available MTG sets with details
  • Explore sealed products - Browse booster boxes, bundles, and precon decks
  • Search individual cards - Find specific cards by name, rarity, or type
  • Plan syncs - Identify which sets to sync based on card count and release date

Note: The Catalog is for browsing only. To add products to your store, use the Sync feature.

Accessing the Catalog

  1. Go to the Catalog tab in the main navigation
  2. You'll see three sub-tabs:
    • Sets - Browse MTG sets
    • Sealed Products - View booster boxes and bundles
    • Cards - Search individual cards

Sets View

Browse all Magic: The Gathering sets with sortable columns.

What You'll See

Table Columns:

  • Set Name - Full name (e.g., "Murders at Karlov Manor")
  • Set Code - 3-letter abbreviation (e.g., "MKM")
  • Release Date - When the set was released
  • Card Count - Total cards in the set

Sorting Sets

Click any column header to sort:

  • Set Name - Alphabetical (A-Z or Z-A)
  • Set Code - Alphabetical by code
  • Release Date - Newest first or oldest first
  • Card Count - Largest sets first or smallest first

Click the same header again to reverse the sort order.

Filtering

Digital-Only Sets: Sets marked as digital-only (Arena/MTGO exclusive) are automatically filtered out. LGS Ledger focuses on paper MTG products.

Release Status: All sets shown in the Sets view are released or upcoming. Unreleased sets may have incomplete data.

Using Set Information

Planning a Sync:

  • Review card counts to estimate sync time
  • Check release dates to prioritize recent sets
  • Note set codes for quick selection in the Sync tab

Example: "Bloomburrow (BLB) has 281 cards, released July 2024. This will take ~15 minutes to sync."

Sealed Products View

Browse booster boxes, bundles, collector boosters, and preconstructed decks.

Product Categories

Sealed products are grouped by type:

  • Booster Boxes - Standard booster boxes (36 packs)
  • Set Boosters - Set booster boxes
  • Collector Boosters - Premium booster boxes
  • Draft Boosters - Draft booster boxes
  • Bundles - Bundle products (10 packs + accessories)
  • Commander Decks - Preconstructed Commander decks
  • Starter Decks - Intro/starter decks

Viewing Sealed Products

  1. Select the Sealed Products tab
  2. Products display in a grid or list
  3. Each product card shows:
    • Product name
    • Set code
    • Product type
    • Release date (if available)

Filtering by Set

If you've selected sets in the Sync tab, sealed products automatically filter to show only those sets:

Example:

  1. Go to Sync tab → Select "Bloomburrow"
  2. Go to CatalogSealed Products
  3. Only Bloomburrow sealed products display (booster boxes, bundles, etc.)

Tip: Clear set selection to see all sealed products.

Pagination

Sealed products load in batches:

  • Initial load: 50 products
  • Click Load More to see additional products
  • Scroll to browse more

Cards View

Search and filter individual MTG cards.

Searching Cards

By Card Name:

  1. Enter card name in the search bar
  2. Results filter as you type
  3. Partial matches work (e.g., "Ob Nixilis" finds all Ob Nixilis cards)

Search is case-insensitive and matches partial names.

Filtering by Rarity

Use the rarity filter to narrow results:

  • All - Show all cards
  • Common - Only common cards
  • Uncommon - Only uncommon cards
  • Rare - Only rare cards
  • Mythic - Only mythic rare cards

Card Information Displayed

Each card in the table shows:

  • Card # - Collector number
  • Name - Full card name
  • Set - Set code (e.g., "MKM")
  • Type - Card type (Creature, Instant, Land, etc.)
  • Mana Cost - Mana symbols (e.g., "{2}{U}{U}")
  • Rarity - Common, Uncommon, Rare, Mythic
  • P/T - Power/Toughness (for creatures)

Sorting Cards

Click column headers to sort by:

  • Card number (numerical)
  • Name (alphabetical)
  • Set (by set code)
  • Type (alphabetical)
  • Rarity (common → mythic)

Pagination

Cards load in batches of 50:

  • Scroll to the bottom
  • Click Load More to fetch next batch
  • Continue until all results are shown

Filtering by Selected Sets

If you've selected sets in the Sync tab, cards automatically filter to show only those sets:

Example:

  1. Go to Sync tab → Select "Bloomburrow" and "Duskmourn"
  2. Go to CatalogCards
  3. Only cards from Bloomburrow and Duskmourn display

Tip: Use this to preview which cards will sync before running a sync.

Using the Catalog Effectively

Planning Your Inventory

For New Stores:

  1. Browse Sets to see what's available
  2. Focus on recent sets (last 1-2 years) for current demand
  3. Note card counts to estimate product volume
  4. Check Sealed Products for bundles and boxes

For Expanding Inventory:

  1. Search Cards by rarity to find high-value cards
  2. Filter by Mythic to see premium inventory
  3. Review older sets for commander staples

Researching Before Syncing

Before syncing a new set:

  1. Go to CatalogSets
  2. Find the set and note card count
  3. Switch to Cards view
  4. Filter by rarity to see distribution
  5. Estimate sync time based on card count

Discovering Sealed Products

To find booster boxes and bundles:

  1. Go to CatalogSealed Products
  2. Select specific sets in Sync tab to filter
  3. Review available sealed product types
  4. Note which products are available for sync

Example: "Bloomburrow has Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, Collector Boosters, and 5 Commander Decks."

Finding Specific Cards

To locate a specific card:

  1. Go to CatalogCards
  2. Type card name in search (e.g., "Jace")
  3. Review all versions across sets
  4. Note set codes and collector numbers
  5. Use this info in Sync → Test Mode → Card Number field

Catalog Data Updates

How Often is Data Updated?

MTG Sets:

  • Updated daily via automated GitHub Actions
  • Pulls data from MTGJSON (official MTG database)
  • New sets added as they're released

Pricing Data:

  • Updated daily from TCGPlayer and Card Kingdom
  • Reflects current market prices
  • Historical pricing tracked for analysis

When New Sets Appear

New sets are added in phases:

  1. Announced - Set appears with basic info (name, code, release date)
  2. Preview - Cards from preview season added
  3. Released - Full set data available on release day
  4. Post-Release - Pricing data populates within 24 hours

Missing or Incorrect Data

If you notice missing or incorrect data:

  1. Verify the set has been officially released
  2. Check MTGJSON for data availability
  3. Wait 24-48 hours after release for full data
  4. Report data issues via the Help section

Limitations

Read-Only

The Catalog is for browsing only. You cannot:

  • Edit card data
  • Add custom products
  • Modify set information
  • Create custom collections

To add products to your store, use the Sync feature.

No Pricing in Catalog

Pricing is not shown in the Catalog. To see pricing:

Digital-Only Sets Excluded

Arena/MTGO exclusive sets are filtered out since they're not paper products.

Best Practices

Efficient Browsing

  1. Use search liberally - Faster than scrolling
  2. Sort by release date - Find newest sets quickly
  3. Filter by rarity - Focus on high-value cards
  4. Cross-reference sealed products - Understand product mix per set

Planning Large Syncs

  1. Browse Sets first - Identify sets of interest
  2. Check card counts - Estimate sync volume
  3. Preview in Cards view - Verify card data quality
  4. Start with recent sets - Higher demand, better data availability

Discovering New Products

  1. Check Catalog weekly - See new releases
  2. Sort by release date (newest first) - Spot new sets immediately
  3. Review sealed products - New bundles and decks
  4. Plan syncs around releases - Sync new sets on release day

Common Questions

Can I sync directly from the Catalog? No. The Catalog is read-only. Use the Sync tab to select sets and start syncs.

Why don't I see prices in the Catalog? Pricing is calculated dynamically based on your pricing configuration. Use Preview Before Sync to see prices.

How do I know if a set is complete? Released sets are 100% complete. Preview/Coming Soon sets may have incomplete data.

Can I export the Catalog data? Not directly from the app. Contact support for bulk data exports.

What if a card is missing? Some promo cards or special releases may not be in MTGJSON. Report missing cards via the Help section.
